International Dot Day

Thanks to my wonderful Bento Blogging Friends, I discovered that it was International Dot Day today. I didn't even know there was such a thing, but once I started reading about it, I knew I had to join in and share it with others. The day was created in honor of Peter Reynolds' book, The Dot, to celebrate creativity, courage, and collaboration. According to the official website, The Dot is about a teacher that helps a student trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to "make her mark", inspiring children and adults around the globe. I can't believe I haven't read this book, but I placed it on hold to pick up this evening after school. Happy International Dot Day!

Yes, I obviously lost my mojo when it came to snack. But, honestly, I just grabbed what was dry and sitting on the towel from doing dishes. Yup.. lazy. However, I did end up making 'dots' out of the mozzarella and sprinkling them on top of the pretzels instead. Oh, and I sent my daughter to school in a polka dot shirt, too. So, there!

Flower Power

This lunch was just a simple one to use up the scraps of deli meat and cheese, and the last little bit of peppers from previous lunches. Scrap lunches always seem to come together so easily. Another thing that worked out? My DIY chocolate pastry. I love those flaky, chocolate pastries from Panera and Starbucks, but can't splurge all the time, so I discovered that I could recreate it pretty easily at home. I just cut open a mini croissant, added a little bit of chocolate chunks (I like bittersweet, personally), microwaved for a few seconds, and inhaled slowly savored. For the lunchbox, I just let it cool, then packed it up. It's delicious room temp too!

Kindergarten Week 2

 This going to bed early and getting up early business is for the birds. No, seriously. Let the birds do it. I'm a human being that needs to know what city and state has an afternoon elementary school. I am SO moving there. Two days into the second week of school and mama feels like a zombie, baby has barely had a single proper nap, hubby is on my not-so-helpful shit poop list, and my precious little Kindergartner? Let's just say that she isn't herself lately. She is tired with a capital 'T' and it translates into some not so nice behavior when she gets home. We'll just leave it at that. So, again.. school that starts at noon? I am SO there! Sign me up!

Kindergarten 1st Week Wrap Up

Wow! What a first week of Kindergarten it was. We are all so exhausted, but so excited to see what the year will bring. However, I could really use an extra Sunday this weekend. Eh, who am I kidding? I could use an extra one every weekend! Here's the wrap up from the first week in lunches.

Day 3 lunch - Celery, watermelon, Trader Joe's yogurt stars, salami, mozzarella cheese, Trader Joe's 12 grain mini crackers.

Snack - Mozzarella cheese and honey Teddy Grahams.

Day 4 lunch - PBJ sandwich rolls, carrots, peas, grapes, cottage cheese.
Snack this day was leftover popcorn that we'd popped at home the night before.
