Creating this balance from visual inspiration to actual food on the plate just got easier with the MyPlate for Kids by Super Healthy Kids. I love this plate! Each section of the plate is recessed to fit your food choices perfectly. Not only does this plate make creating balanced meals fun and simple, but it teaches kids about food groups and portions.
The details of the plate? It is dishwasher safe, BPA free, and made of 100% melamine. The protein and fruit section fit 1/4 cup, while the grains and veggies have a 1/3 cup capacity. You can also purchase a dairy bowl, which I love. Super Healthy Kids is so much more than a product, though they do have several others besides this plate. They have recipes, meal plans, educational activities packs, and more. Using one of their education material packets, we recreated the meal you see above. Using the same packet, we had a lot of fun 'creating' balanced meals. We've even, occasionally, incorporated this tool into our meal planning, allowing our daughter to help choose her own options for a meal. I love watching my 3 1/2 year old talk about food groups, and be excited about it too! Sometimes, she just makes meals with her cut outs and place mat and 'feeds' them to her stuffed animals... super cute!
The MyPlate is definitely something we love, and would be happy to recommend for purchase, but Super Healthy Kids has given Zoe's Lunchbox one plate to giveaway to a lucky winner! Enter below for your chance to win, and good luck!! And, while I don't require you to follow Super Healthy Kids blog, I highly recommend it. They have lots of fantastic ideas to share.

This plate is perfect for taco nights - beans and cheese in the protein, tortillas in the grain, tomatos in the fruits and lettuce, sautéed peppers and guacamole in the veggies.
ReplyDeleteChicken & quinoa w/ broccoli and an avocado
ReplyDeleteMy littlest kid loves sectioned plates. This plate is adorable, love the way it defines clearly what a balanced meal looks like! I think it would be great for 'snack tray' style lunches and dinners. Whole grain crackers, cheese, turkey rounds, grapes and apples, carrots and celery.
ReplyDeleteThis plate looks awesome! I'd put some rice, beans, zucchini and fresh fruit! :)
ReplyDeleteFor my boys - Tri-colored pepper strips, homemade chicken nuggets, Wheat Dinner roll, Pineapple oh or maybe Kiwi!
ReplyDeleteFor my picky one probably pineapple, sugar snap peas, not sure on the other 2 just yet.
ReplyDeleteI adore this cute little set! With it, I would try my childhood fav meal of sliced pork chops and apple sauce; a side salad of tomatoes and cucumbers, and garlic toast!!
ReplyDeleteSo cute!!!! I want a whole set.
ReplyDeleteDef need a set of these i am always pushing for the "balance" in my kids meals now they can see it
ReplyDeleteThey are so cute, my little guy would love this.
ReplyDeleteDo they make them for grown-up portions? My husband is in need of these because he's a 50/50 split of meat and bread
I would absolutely love one of these plates for my 2 year old. Seeing how you divide your child's food has been instrumental in helping me feed my own child better. Thank you! Some of his favorites would be grilled Tofu, steamed veggies, Japanese brown rice and grapes. Yummy!
ReplyDeleteMy son would love this plate. I have been looking for something like this! :)
ReplyDeleteMy kids would LOVE this plate - They like seeing their food divided. Some of my kids favorite foods are, strawberries/blueberries/grapes, peas/corn/broccoli, chicken or turkey (they don't particularly like red meat), whole wheat bread (they've never had white bread before. I make homemade wheat tortillas with mozzeralla cheese, a veggie and fruit of their choice and a little dessert (yogurt with raspberries) to complete their meal!
ReplyDeleteId put pineapples, carrots and almonds
ReplyDeleteI would be pleased for my grand-daughters to have these, since their diet is less than balanced for their best health.
ReplyDeletethis is perfect even for older kids. i'd put mangoes or oranges, carrots or tomatoes or cucumber salad, chicken or fish or burger or meatballs and then for grain udi's gf bread. :)
ReplyDeleteJust as an FYI since I saw a comment on older kids and adults. In the review, I do state what each compartment holds, but of course, you could 'mound' it up a bit for older kids. This plate is for 2-8 year olds as far as portion goes, but Super Healthy Kids DOES make an 'older' kid and adult version of the plate too. They have lots of other products! Love all the ideas too!
ReplyDeleteJohn is such a picky kid but loves the look of this! I asked what we'd put on and he says zucchini, meatballs, grapes and a muffin ;)
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea for toddlers meals - love it
ReplyDeleteI would put baked chicken, a whole wheat roll, green beans, and some grapes.

I need this plate to show my kids what they SHOULD be eating
ReplyDeleteWe use ours regularly - most often we put veggies, cheese, rice and fruit on them! I'm entering to win one for my nephew though :)
ReplyDeletegreat idea for more balanced meals!
ReplyDeleteThis plate is a wonderful visual reference on the different food groups. We eat a lot of inidan food around here and I would fill mine with rice, lentils, yoghurt and salad :). I'm entering to win a plate for my kiddo.
ReplyDeleteAh I see this plate is already working for me! I would have to include fruit on that plate and yoghurt goes into the dairy bowl.
DeleteWhat a great idea! I love the pictures too - now that we've started letting little miss serve herself it would come in super handy so she wouldn't just fill her plate with bread :-)
ReplyDeleteIs this open to Australian residents?
I would do a vegetable curry, a piece of salmon, quinoa, and fresh mango! Indian dinner at its best!
ReplyDeleteI saw that they switched to the 'my plate' format. I think it's a neat idea I think the government site maybe had too many options though. Might be confusing for some people on what types of foods go in each group. Personally though, I love it. I think it's great you're using it as a tool with your kids as well. Kudos!
ReplyDeleteI see my son with some chicken, some rice, some corn or broccoli and apple slices or strawberries.
ReplyDeleteI would use it for my 15 mo old. Buttered roll for grains, strawberries or peaches for fruit, steamed broccoli for veggie, and sauteed hot dogs for protein. :) I'm sure i would add in some chocolate milk for her in a sippy cup as well. ;)
ReplyDeleteLets see... for my daughter I would make stuffed rice balls, hard boiled eggs, sliced pears and steamed carrots
