No, no .. nothing like that. Literally, this lunch was for the letter 'X'. Now, I'd love to say I had the talent to make a xylophone like at More Than Your Average Mom, but this will have to do. Oh, and apparently the letter 'X' is a tricky one to get just right for our 3-1/2 year old. It's those darn slanty lines I tell you!
'X' peanut butter sandwich, Trader Joe's veggie straws, celery sticks, salami, mozzarella/cheddar stick (kind of slanty and crossed like an 'x'), X-otic fruits - dragonfruit and Ataulfo mango, candy bones (play on x-ray).
Okay so I really did stretch it, but I just can't figure out how to do some silly xray fish or portray xerox in a lunch. I just can't. Hey, the kiddo 'got' it, so I can't really complain. Oh, and the dragonfruit? First time we've tried it. I saw a post about trying new things, in particular this fruit, on a Lunches Fit For a Kid, so I was intrigued. So, when I cleverly thought of 'x'otic fruits, I knew it was our chance to give it a try. It wasn't bad. It really wasn't much of anything, though. It is textured sort of like kiwi with all the little seeds, but really quite bland in flavor. I think it would be great in a mixed fruit salad for texture, but I'm officially calling dragonfruit a gimmick. It's all beautiful and enticing on the outside.. but you get in there, and you're kind of feeling a bit ripped off. Ah well. I was lucky to find them quite cheap and bought 2, so we'll try them in a couple different fruit combos. I love kiwi texture, so it works for me to add them in with other soft fruits, at least. And they are striking to look at for sure.
Here are some of our 'x' projects for the day, too!
In this lunch...
