With the release of our butterflies complete, I just had to do this lunch before I moved on to the other bugs we have invited into our home. So it's not the metamorphosis lunch I had originally envisioned, but it's close enough to be pleased with it. The little one totally 'got it' and ate each life cycle at a time, albeit out of order, but she knew what they were all meant to be at least. Mission accomplished. We're also reading numerous books on butterfly life cycles, but needed something a bit more in depth this year than Eric Carle had to offer, the go to book now is part of the Let's Read and Find Out Science series called From Caterpillar to Butterfly by D. Heligiman. Those series of books are great!
'Butterfly egg' trail mix with yogurt raisins, raw sunflower and pumpkin seeds, and raisins, blueberry and grape 'caterpillars' on spinach leaves and carrot twigs, rolled salami 'chrysalises', an open face mustard, Colby, and Gouda cheese sandwich 'butterfly', and ranch in the container.

So nice! This is a good way to retell the life cycle of a butterfly. Good job on the lunches :)
